It’s finally stopped snowing…and raining…and the sun is shining. That means school is in the final stretch and summer is just around the corner.

Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) launches its summer reading program June 1 with the goal of reading a marathon 26.2 million minutes. This year’s program – Go Read. Go! – aims to keep students (and their families) reading throughout the summer in an effort to combat the summer slide. The summer slide represents learning progress loss that can happen when kids don’t read over the summer months.

Registration opens June 1 and the program continues through July 31. You can register just yourself or your entire family and log minutes whenever it’s convenient. Every participant is eligible to win prizes. Everyone who registers receives a “starting line” water bottle (or sippy cup), and you can earn another prize when you’re halfway to your reading goal. Participants under 19 who complete their reading goal will receive a free book and adults will receive a discount coupon to the Foundation’s annual Whale Sale used book sale.

Hundreds of special events and programs are planned and offer families exciting and free creative learning opportunities throughout the summer. From animal and music programs to tween and teen coding camps, to library laser tag, escape rooms, and murder mystery parties, JCPL has something planned for everyone. Adults will enjoy the cookbook, fitness, meditation and movement/yoga classes. For a complete event listing, visit jeffcolibrary.org/events.

JCPL’s summer reading program is sponsored by the Jefferson County Public Library Foundation, McDonald’s, Colorado Rapids, Chipotle and the JCPL Board of Trustees.

Mark your calendars now and get ready to Go Read. Go!
