(Lakewood, Colo. – Sept. 16, 2016) Jefferson County Library Foundation Executive Director Jo Schantz announced today that, effective immediately, large donations of used books and other materials will no longer be accepted at the Lakewood Library at 20th and Miller. Donors are asked to take boxed donations directly to the Jefferson County Library Foundation warehouse, at 10790 W 50th Avenue, Suite 200 in Wheat Ridge, Monday-Friday, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Donors with more than six boxes of donations are asked to make an appointment for the drop-off by calling 303-475-5075. Additional information on donations, including directions to the warehouse, is available at jeffcolibraryfoundation.org/how-you-can-help/donate-books/

“We’re trying to manage our operations as efficiently as we can,” Schantz explained. “By receiving donations directly at the Foundation warehouse, we’re able to reduce the cost of transporting the materials and increase our support of Library programs.”

The Jefferson County Library Foundation relies heavily on donations of used books and materials, including:

  • Books
  • Encyclopedias published in the last ten years and those published before 1950
  • Collectible magazines published prior to 1940
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • LPs

The donated items are then sold through Library Foundation book sales and proceeds from the sales go to support library programs, such as free movie showings, American Sign Language Story Times, and Summer Reading.

The Foundation’s Fall Whale Sale will be held Oct. 21-23 at the Jefferson County Fair Grounds. For more information, visit jeffcolibraryfoundation.org/fall-whale-of-a-used-book-sale-2016/
